Brenda Chi - Mom's Cabinet Art Print
This piece is called, 'Vitality', inspired by the things that remind Brenda of her mom; Fiery and energetic.
The Vietnamese coffee phin, filled with condensed milk and black coffee, is a nod to her mom's upbringing in Saigon. Though ethnically Chinese, Brenda's mom is also nationally Vietnamese and her life there is what she brought along with her to the States.
With that in mind, her South East Asian roots give her a strong passion, reflected in her love of eating and growing Thai Chili Peppers.
But, one can only be so energetic before needing to cool down, which is where White Flower Oil comes in. A strong memory of her mom is often her self-soothing after a long day of work, a symbol of the hard work the artists' immigrant parents had to go through to raise their family in this country.
Lastly, in the image is a Chinese calendar the artist grew up seeing in the home, with the date of her mom's birth.
Brenda Chi is a Chinese American artist residing in Los Angeles, CA.
